Technical Judgment & Architectural Strategy
We provide founders and leadership teams with high-conviction system design, architectural RFCs, due diligence audits, and fractional engineering leadership.
The right architectural decision, made early, prevents expensive rewrites. The wrong one compounds silently across schemas, APIs, and data integrity. Technical judgment is not a luxury — it is systematic risk management.
How Stonewasp Evaluates & Directs Technical Decisions
High-stakes technical decisions made without architecture verification
Early and growth-stage companies often face critical architecture crossroads: choosing persistence layers, planning multi-region scaling, evaluating build vs. buy decisions, or prepping for technical due diligence. Making the wrong choice compounds long-term technical and operational debt.
Typical Symptoms We Diagnose
- Uncertainty around architecture choices (monolith vs. microservices, serverless vs. containers)
- Founders overwhelmed trying to manage junior engineers and evaluate vendor proposals
- Upcoming investor or enterprise buyer technical due diligence with undocumented systems
- Engineering roadmap constantly changing due to lack of a cohesive technical strategy
Engineering Outcomes
High-Conviction Architecture
Written RFCs and blueprints that clearly explain the rationale, trade-offs, and failure modes of every major decision.
Fractional Technical Leadership
Direct access to architectural direction, RFC reviews, and system design without the commitment of an executive search.
De-Risked Due Diligence
Comprehensive system maps, security policies, and code health audits that satisfy enterprise and investor scrutiny.
What We Own & Deliver
End-to-end technical responsibility, not partial hand-offs.
Architecture Reviews & Written RFCs
In-depth analysis of existing system topologies, data flow constraints, and scaling bottlenecks with concrete architectural blueprints.
Concrete Deliverables
Fractional CTO & Technical Leadership
Strategic advisory for founders and leadership teams: roadmap prioritization, engineering hiring strategy, and code review oversight.
Concrete Deliverables
Technical Due Diligence & Vendor Audits
Rigorous evaluations of third-party agency deliverables, acquisition targets, or internal codebases prior to fundraising.
Concrete Deliverables
Modernization & Migration Strategy
De-risked execution roadmaps for replatforming legacy databases, decoupling monolithic systems, and adopting modern toolchains.

Ongoing weekly/monthly check-ins, PR reviews, and architectural guidance to ensure execution matches strategy.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Technical Advisory structured?
We offer both project-based advisory (e.g. a 1–2 week Architecture Audit & Blueprint) and ongoing Fractional CTO retainers (weekly async strategy, architecture reviews, and sprint guidance).
Do you only advise, or can you also build what you recommend?
Because we are an active engineering studio, we build what we design. You can choose to execute our recommendations with your internal team or have Stonewasp own the implementation through our Product Engineering service.
Who works on my advisory engagement?
All technical advisory is conducted directly by engineers who actively write and review production code—not career consultants or non-technical account managers.
Send us the engineering problem.
Tell us about your architecture, timeline, and current bottlenecks. We'll assess whether Stonewasp is a fit.
